Cranks
A full range of unicycle cranks. From basic cranks with square tapers or cotter pins through to advanced models. See our selection of hubs for splined hub / cranksets, or the sizing guide for selection tips.
- Standard square taper cranks as found on most beginner unicycles. Cottered cranks too.
- Splined cranks as found on ISIS unicycles, KH unicycles and newer Nimbus unicycles.
What Size is Best?
What kind of cranks do I need? It depends on what you want to do with your unicycle. As a general rule, the shorter the crank the faster you can ride, at the loss of some control. Conversely, the longer the crank the more control and power your will have, while sacrificing some speed.
- 12" unicycles come with 89mm cranks.
- 16" unicycles can only be fitted with 110mm cranks or smaller or they touch the ground when pedalling.
- 20" unicycles: 110mm cranks give a smooth fast ride but make idling harder, 125mm cranks (standard) give a lot of torque and are good for learners and tricks, 140mm (Kris Holm and Onza only) are for trials, 150mm are a bit long and tend to hit the ground in sharp turns.
- 24" unicycles: 110mm cranks are very smooth and should only be considered if you are a speed fiend, 125mm cranks are smooth and still quite fast, yet still ok for idling, 140 and 150mm cranks are great for off road and learners. 170mm are for trials and offroad riding.
- 26" unicycles: 110mm cranks make a great long distance machine on flat surface but very hard to idle, 125mm cranks smooth and a good street machine, 150mm cranks are great for standard Muni riding and tricks work. 170mm are for trials riders or mountain climbers, these give you the ability to go up almost anything!
- 36" Coker: 89mm cranks, yes; you can put them on a 36" unicycle and they make an incredibly fast unicycle but it is harder to control. 125mm cranks create an extremely fast machine and gives some control for the experienced rider to idle. 150mm cranks are standard and should be considered the minimum for all but experienced riders.
In general, square taper / cotterless cranks are fitted to beginner and entry level models, splined cranks are fitted to mid and high range unicycles. Cottered cranks are usually seen only on very cheap or very old unicycles.
