Unicycle.com NZ sponsors a Demo Team of three riders, which is reviewed every year during the Nationals.
Why do we have a Demo Team? Sure we get nice warm fuzzy feelings by supporting Kiwi riders, but also our support helps them to reach their full potential which in turn grows the sport as a whole. More unicyclists means more sales for us, allowing us to continue to do what we love: providing the highest quality unicycles on the planet. Sponsoring riders costs us money, so we can't afford to sponsor every good rider out there. This is why our demo team is limited to just three riders.
If you would like to be considered for the next demo team please read the information below.
Four key things we look for when sponsoring a rider are:
- Someone actively involved in growing the sport. This means encouraging people to learn to ride plus also working with existing riders.
- A friendly personality with good people skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Great riding skills
If you would like to be a member of the UDC Demo Team then work hard on all four of these areas. Note that great riding skills are not as important as the other three! If someone is an average rider but they are introducing 200 new people to unicycling a year we would sponsor them ahead of a talented rider who does nothing to grow the sport.
What we primarily look for in sponsored riders are people who are out there promoting the sport and getting people interested in unicycling. Become someone like that and you will have a good shot at getting sponsored. How you come across in person and online is also very important to us, as sponsored riders are ambassadors for both unicycling in general and for Unicycle.com. Note that using correct grammar, appropriate punctuation and learning to spell all greatly increase your chances of being sponsored.
Our current sponsored riders are not only talented but heavily involved with developing the sport. At conventions and meets you find them not only competing but helping out with workshops (or actually running the convention). They are actively promoting the sport, both to the general public through shows and demos as well as to existing riders through sharing their expertise. They are friendly people who present themselves professionally.
If you think you have what it takes to be member of the UDC demo team please email a sponsorship proposal to sponsorship@unicycle.co.nz, outlining your skills and experience. Also include what you'd like to achieve in the future - for example events you'd like to attend, tricks you intend to master, demos and shows that you'll perform in. We will let you know that we have received your proposal. Your proposal will then be considered at the next NZ unicycle weekend, along with all other proposals. Existing sponsored riders may also submit a proposal if they wish to be considered for the next years team.
As a member of the UDC Demo Team you'll qualify for a discount on parts and unicycles and also get help with registration and or transport to selected NZ events.
